HOUSE 042

TOPANGA, CA

2020

Set into the dry landscape of Topanga Canyon, the house is conceived as a light greenhouse enclosure wrapped around a more grounded interior life. A thin black metal frame defines the circular perimeter, holding glass and translucent panels with the precision of an infrastructural system rather than a domestic object. Within it, rammed earth walls, timber linings, and concrete thresholds create a sequence of calm rooms protected by planting, shade, and filtered light. The perimeter becomes both façade and garden: a living buffer of native vegetation, changing shadow, and seasonal atmosphere. The project is less a sealed house than a cultivated climate — part dwelling, part orangery, part quiet instrument for inhabiting the canyon.
